Mind feed is a project where participants are given remote control over an avatar - a physical person - moving through the city environment.

There is an installation room with a projector and speakers. Via these, one can experience the world through the eyes and ears of another being, from a first-person perspective. The video and sound streams are fed from an actor/avatar who carries hidden cameras and microphones. The participants controls the actions of the avatar by giving instructions via a mobile phone link.

The presented interface resembles the medial situation in a virtual world or a computer game. The participants have almost unlimited freedom in using the avatar as they please. For example by moving about, using the avatar’s money, interacting with other people, doing things they themselves would not, visiting their own homes or work places, or maybe meeting up with people the controllers know.

In addition to participating in the actual performance sessions, they can also be viewed live over the Internet or in a mobile phone. The material is available for download afterwards.

What we would like to explore in this project is the outlines of identity, what responsibility one takes over their actions when there is nothing to lose and to see if reality is virtualized when thought and body is separated in this manner.

Interacting Arts is a group of arts producers and theorists, based in Stockholm, Sweden.
